Iristel has implemented the Universal Call Blocking (UCB) feature. It is an automated feature – free of charge to consumers – designed to protect Canadians at home and while roaming internationally. This new system operates on a specific set of rules which block malformed numbers that do not comply with international numbering plan standards. Examples of this include international numbers with more than 15 digits, North American numbers that have either more or less than 10 digits (long distance calls that begin with the number 1 and 310-XXXX calls), and numbers with unassigned North American area codes. There are few exceptions to these rules, which can be found here: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2018/2018-484.htm
A spoofed number can appear as a string of digits, such as 000-000-0000, a random number, or the number of a company, person, or government entity. Telemarketers who make sales calls to customers in Canada have an obligation to identify themselves. Callers who use technology to spoof their caller ID information with inaccurate, false, or misleading information violate this requirement. Spoofed calls are not necessarily illegitimate under the Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules.
Iristel is proudly committed to adhere to the standards set out by the CRTC in order to protect and satisfy all Canadian consumers. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1 833 IRISTEL.
